Visiting A Burger Restaurant When You're On A Diet

Andrea Johnson

The word "burger" probably brings to mind images of big, greasy burger patties topped with melted American cheese and resting on tasty, buttered buns. Of course, this sounds absolutely delicious. But if you're on a diet or trying to eat healthier, heading to a burger restaurant may sound a bit intimidating. Here's the thing: dining at a burger restaurant does not have to mean blowing your diet and eating way too much fat. Especially over the past few years, most burger restaurants have made an effort to offer healthier options to their customers. Here are some tips to help you order and enjoy your food wisely when eating at a burger restaurant.

Consider the "alternative" burger patties.

A standard burger patty is made with beef, but most burger restaurants now offer several other kinds of patties on their menus. If you want real meat but prefer to go leaner, then a turkey or chicken burger is a good choice. If you'd rather have a vegetarian or vegan option, look for a black bean burger or quinoa burger. Both of these patties tend to be really flavorful, filling, and satisfying, but lower in fat and free from cholesterol. There are also some vegan substitute burgers that are made to look and taste more like meat. These can be delicious, but they also contain a bit more fat than black bean and quinoa burgers, so weigh your options.

Go easy on the bread.

If you're trying to keep things low-carb, then you should consider ordering your burger without a bun. They can be delicious when wrapped with lettuce instead, or even when served on a plate with a knife and fork. If you are okay with some carbs, consider asking for a bottom bun only, and eating your burger like an open-faced sandwich.

Pick your sauces wisely.

Sauces can add a lot of calories and fat to your burger. Mayonnaise-based sauces are especially high in calories. A good alternative is to stick with mustard. Mustard is quite low in calories, but it packs a lot of flavor. If you don't like mustard, consider using low-fat salad dressing on your burger. Low-fat ranch and Italian dressings both make for tasty, healthier burger sauces.

With the tips above, you can keep things lighter when dining at a burger restaurant. You don't have to forego burgers; you just want to do them a little differently.

Hey, my name is Nadine Muns. My daughter's 16th birthday party was a huge success, partly thanks to the caterers we hired for the job. The caterers arrived with all of the appetizers, entrees and desserts for the party. Each course was served by friendly waiters and waitresses, which made my daughter feel like royalty. Furthermore, the birthday cake was custom made to suit my daughter's unique tastes. Each guest received his or her own specially made dessert as well. I would like to share information about finding a caterer that will do a good job at your event. I will share information about catering services offered by true professionals. I hope you will visit often to learn more.
